After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter whoโ€™s ten years younger than her and as casual as they comeโ€”the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.

While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesnโ€™t need glory or fame. Sheโ€™s fine with being a โ€œmereโ€ ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, sheโ€™s discovering just whatโ€™s really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.

Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she canโ€™t just give up the joy sheโ€™s found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?

This book literally (ha ha) made Abby Jimenez an auto-buy author for me.ย

Small town boy meets big city girl and they fall in love but their worlds end up clashing, keeping them from fully giving in to each other.ย

In this we follow two point of views. The first is Alexis. It seems like sheโ€™s living this dream life; high paying job, comes from a wealthy family, and could potentially marry her counterpart in the medical field. But very soon as you start reading, we learn that sheโ€™s clearly unhappy. Her parents are pushing her to take on roles she doesnโ€™t want. Her brother is no longer acknowledged by her family. And she just canโ€™t seem to shake her toxic ex-boyfriend from making her life a living hell.ย

Daniel on the other hand is struggling to make ends meet and that is because his deadbeat mother is threatening to sell his late grandparentsโ€™ beautiful home. So in order to save it, he takes on too many roles he can handle. Not only is he the mayor to his little town but he also runs a bed and breakfast, heโ€™s a carpenter/artist, and he cares for his townspeople and animals.

When our main characters unite, Alexis immediately believes their encounter was just a fling whereas Daniel wants to continue seeing her. This may be because Alexis is ten years older than Daniel and she thinks nothing serious could ever happen let alone adapting his simple lifestyle to hers. As the story goes on she just canโ€™t keep herself away from him and vice versa.

Abby Jimenez has a talent for weaving in a characterโ€™s past trauma and making it relatable to almost anybody and for some reason if it wasnโ€™t, it was still engaging to read. If you couldnโ€™t connect to one character then youโ€™d definitely connect to the other.

The heavy topics were handled with care in this story; domestic violence, drug use, and emotional abuse to name a few. I have not read an Abby Jimenez book yet that hadnโ€™t made me cry (like what are you doing to me, Abby!!).

If you want to pick up a sweet romance that has tasteful drama intertwined throughout, pick up this book or any of her other books for that matter.

I loved this, and you just might too.
